Sophomores went on a retreat to Columbiere center on September 17 to take a step away from normal routines. They spent the day listening to lectures about saints and breaking into small groups for activities.
Artist Gracie Morbitzer creates icons through The Modern Saints Project. She has worked with Mercy before, and Director of Ministry and Catholic Identity Mrs. Mary Kate Becker wanted to bring that to the retreat.
“I really like supporting other women who are doing the work in ministry,” Mrs. Becker said. She was invited to lead the retreat to “support her ministry and give her a platform.”
Sophomores enjoyed the retreat.
“I thought it was quite fun and very chill,” Quinn Fogg-Liedel said.
Even though the message was good, some sophomores thought that the presentations dragged on.
“[Gracie] was a really nice person, but it went on for too long,” Hunter Corley said.
Despite long presentations, the day was still a good chance for sophomores to escape their lives for a day.
”There’s something about changing up the routine, like getting away from school and home life and daily routine and experiencing the world in a different way that I think so needed in our life as human beings,” Becker said.
