Fashion: Oscar Edition

Despite a loss of viewers of this year’s Academy Awards, the red carpet at E! gained a record number of viewers. Millions of people throughout the country flocked to their TVs to witness their favorite celebrities strut the red carpet. Some looks were hit, while others failed miserably.

One of the best dressed women of the evening was clearly Cate Blanchett. Courtesy of Givenchy Haute Couture, Blanchett worked a stunning pale lavender dress. The look was unique enough to make her stand out without going too overboard.

Another fashion hit in lavender was seen by Mila Kunis, who wore a spectacular Elie Saab gown. Kunis’s costar, Natalie Portman, also wore a lovely purple dress by Marchesa.

Even celebrities who were new to the Oscars managed to look fabulous. Hailee Steinfeld wore a perfect and age-appropriate Marchesa dress. Steinfeld, the Oscar-nominated star of True Grit, has looked gorgeous all awards season due to dresses courtesy of Prada and Prabal Gurung. Jennifer Lawrence, another newcomer and Oscar nominee, wore a custom Calvin Klein dress designed by Francisco Costa.

Finally, some stars managed to appear on the worst-dressed list for Hollywood’s biggest night. Nicole Kidman managed to disappoint in an oddly-shaped Dior Haute Couture gown from 2008. Jennifer Hudson, who normally impresses on the red carpet, surprised critics in a tacky orange prom number. Melissa Leo, who walked away the Best Supporting Actress award, wore a Marc Bouwer dress featuring both gaudy reflective pieces and lace.
