Mercy Varsity Volleyball Puts Out the Blaze

The Mercy Varsity Volleyball (MVV) team defeated the Ladywood Blazers at home on October 15. With an impressive combined team effort, the Marlins won the match in four sets.

The first two sets were won easily by Mercy with scores of 25-12 and 25-19. In the third set, the Marlins battled neck and neck with the Blazers, but fell short with a score of 24-26.

Unfortunately, junior Jenna Lerg collided with sophomore Sloan Horejsi, injuring herself. Lerg limped off of the court and was out for the remainder of the game with a sprained foot.

Mercy bounced back in the fourth set and defeated Ladywood with a score of 25-14. Junior Shanleigh Conlan expressed her pride in her team after Lerg was taken out.

“She’s definitely one of our strongest players so having her out of the game was hard, but it was nice to see everyone step up and win,” said Conlan.

The Marlins will be competing in the Beast of the East tournament, one of the biggest tournaments in the state. They can expect to face tough competition like Dakota, Lake Orion and Marian. Make sure to come out and support the Marlins as they face their Marian rivals once again!
