The recess is officially over and once again the Mock Trial team is preparing to argue their way to the state competition. With the tryouts completed, the team begins to prepare for their competition in March. This year, Mercy, along with several other schools, will be delving into a case about students being spied on via the webcam in their computers.

The girls are expected to act out the roles of witnesses and lawyers. Throughout the month of  January, the girls will try out for various roles and the coaches will decide who will fill the parts

Although learning and memorizing the information and protocol can be difficult, each year the team manages to shine on competition day. The team did not take home a title last year, but in 2013 they received one of the two coveted honorable mention awards.

“Although we fell short of our state’s goal, we still had a great season,” said senior co-captain Gia Toler of last year’s finish. “This year we hope we are able to make it to states with lots of practice, hard work, and our wonderful new teammates.”

Practice runs every Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2:50 to 4:15 in room S-20.
