Mrs. Laura Weiler—who teaches biology and AP biology —has only been at Mercy for less than a year, but plans to leave the place she calls “home” by the second week of May. Harboring this secret since her husband transferred jobs to a base in Chicago during Christmas break, Mrs. Weiler broke the news to staff and students on April 21.

With her house for sale and Chicago job applications already mailed, Mrs. Weiler is ready to move to the place where most of her relatives live.

“It’s hard for me to leave Mercy because I love it here,” said Mrs. Weiler, “but I’m glad I’ll be close to my family again. Being away from my husband has been really difficult, especially with my daughter Charlotte running around the house we had to keep clean to sell!”

Students have so much praise for her and the effort she put forth this school year, however short.

“I am going to really miss Mrs. Weiler and AP biology,” said junior Lindsay Hiser. “Her class is different than any other class I’ve taken at Mercy and has truly taught me the importance of critical thinking.”

Mrs. Weiler’s first AP biology class will be taking their AP exam on May 13th, a few days after she leaves the state. Her freshman and sophomore biology classes will be taught by retired teacher Mr. John Eschleman for the remainder of the year.
