Summer Romances

At the end of a long summer romance, many students realize after going back to school that their relationship was nothing more than a pool-side fling. Although break-ups can be tough, there’s a certain satisfaction from realizing that you’re better off without a boyfriend, which we can learn from, of all people, celebrities and musicians. So cancel the pity party, throw aside the Haagen-Dazs, change out of your sweats, and hit the nearest karaoke bar: here are a few of the best break up pick-me-up songs ever.

1. Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone. Probably the most popular of Kelly’s hits since winning American Idol nine years ago, this anthem brings fun images of wrecking your ex’s apartment after a break up. Sure, it’s not going to happen, but daydreaming about it sure is fun.

2. Hilary Duff – So Yesterday. Yes, it’s fluffy and superfluous at times, but shouldn’t all girls be a little silly sometimes, especially after ditching a loser? It’s got a catchy chorus, if you don’t mind it stuck in your head for the next few days.

3. Joss Stone – You Had Me. Brilliantly simple lyrics (You had me/You lost me/I’ve realized, in time/That my eyes are not blind/I’m taking back my life) combined with all the soul of Aretha, that just screams at your ex.

4. Jessica Simpson – These Boots Are Made For Walking. Just a few seconds into this cover, and you’ll completely forget about the pain of a break-up, at least for the next three and a half minutes. Guaranteed to make you realize that your ex is losing out by losing you.
