Mozart playin’, state qualifyin’, and studyin’ up a storm student-athlete Heather Smith seems to have it all. Only a junior, she is already very talented. Just barely over five feet, she’s a star in the making. She has been playing the piano for over 10 years and frequently competes in piano recitals. Although she cannot read music, her ability to play songs by ear is a natural gift.
The songs she plays on the piano ring in her head while she leads the pack during most of her cross-country races. Smith qualified to run at States by placing 13th at the Regional Qualifier Meet. She went on to place 56th at the State Meet in Jackson, MI and is currently being scouted by college recruiters.
“When I run, the only thing I see is the person in front of me,” said Smith. “My goal is to see no one.”
Off the course, Smith excels in school. She maintains a high GPA, is a member of French Honor Society, and participates in many extracurricular activities.
“I’m so grateful I have many talents,” said Smith. “I thank God for each and every one of them.”
