MVL captain nominated for Detroit Free Press Athlete of the Year
Junior Libby Bartels is nominated to be the Detroit Free Press Athlete of the Year for girls lacrosse. There are seven other nominees from Bloomfield Hills, Dexter, Brighton, Cranbrook, Hartland, and Troy. The winner is chosen by the Sports Dept. of the Detroit Free Press. The results will be announced on June 20.
A ceremony for the nominees was held at The Fillmore Detroit on May 18. The event featured various awards, contests, and guest speaker and Detroit Lion Golden Tate. At the ceremony, Bartels was surrounded by many talented athletes.
“I am excited to see the winner,” said Bartels. “I have played against some of the other nominees, so it was nice to see familiar faces at the ceremony.”
Because Bartels is a junior nominee and MVL captain, she is especially honored and looks forward to set goals for next year.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work on my leadership skills, be able to make bigger goals for next year, and to push myself and my teammates to get better,” said Bartels.
