Mercy’s Black Awareness Society for Education closes out year
As the school year draws to an close, the Black Awareness Society for Education, better known as B.A.S.E., held its last meeting of the school year.
Officers were elected after candidates were allotted two minutes each to give a speech demonstrating their strengths and qualifications. With the exception of president, all those who ran for an office were unopposed.
“I’m excited to work [next] year and [to] make the year great,” said Kauai Johnson, the incoming secretary.
After the members voted for the candidates, a party followed. Pizza, pop, and cupcakes were served as the group socialized and listened to music.
“It feels nice to relax and have fun with all the members,” said senior Nina Smalls, the outgoing president. “The board has worked hard all year to make the year fun.”
The party ended with the group watching the movie Dream Girls. The members sang and danced along with the film.
