Mercy plans a Grand Reunion

Lindsay Weismiller, Mercy’s special events coordinator, works hard on her computer to prepare for the 70th Anniversary Grand Reunion.

“Most people don’t know that Mercy has actually been talking about the 70th Anniversary for the last two or three years,” said Mercy special events coordinator Lindsay Weismiller.

After many years it the making, Mercy’s weekend-long 70th Anniversary Grand Reunion will take place Sept. 25 through Sept. 28. The 70th anniversary will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the current Mercy High School building as well as Spirit Week and Mercy’s 25th annual golf outing.

When planning the reunion, coordinators decided to find representatives from milestone classes to invite to the anniversary party. These representatives helped plan their individual class reunion by combining multiple reunions into one.

Mercy sent out thousands of invitations to parents, students, and staff who were involved in any part of these milestone classes and hundreds are expected to attend. The party will take place throughout the entire school building and there will be a luncheon in the gym.

When preparing for the event, the coordinators decided that it was very important to honor and encourage Sisters of Mercy to attend. Thus there will also be a mass for the sisters from the Detroit area on Sept. 27 at Mercy — the Mass of Thanksgiving Celebrating 70 Years of Sisters of Mercy Education.
