Mercy’s Golf Team took home the MHSAA Division 2 State Championship trophy once again, defying all expectations and securing their third consecutive state championship win. The tournament took place at Grand Valley State University where the team won by 5 strokes and a team score of 677. The game was very close—the scores were going up and down both days of the tournament.
“The first day of the tournament, we were up 8 strokes and then, all of a sudden, the second day we were down 1 stroke,” Captain Lila Polakowski said. “We ended up securing the win, but it was really, really close”
The Mercy Golf Team is no stranger to winning. Despite the whispers of doubt, they are currently standing with a three peat and paving the way for Mercy Athletics.
“The feeling of winning was really amazing,” Polakowski said. “We were really iffy on whether we were going to win or not just because of how close we were, but once we did win, the feeling was unmatched.”
