This bowling season has started off strong. Last week, on November 30, four-year varsity bowler, senior Olivia Nazareno achieved something not many people can say they have. She bowled an almost perfect game, scoring 289 points at the Catholic League pre-singles.
“It felt really great,” Nazareno said. “It’s always a great feeling to get a new personal best and having my team’s support there with me made it a very memorable moment.”
Nazareno bowled 10 strikes in that single game and had the highest bowling average of all the competitors in the individual competition. She had an average of 198, putting her in 1st place and junior Mya Mapp came in 4th place.
The varsity bowling team puts work into every competition, and through hard work and dedication they successfully perform every time. They also work together as a team but upholding land standing traditions of support and care for one another.
“Before every meet and tournament, as a team we all huddle together on the land and give a pep talk before we do a team cheer,” Nazareno said.
Nazareno has high hopes for this season and believes the team will succeed in their efforts to have a great competition season.
“I’m hoping to be able to have a lot of fun with my teammates this season and do well in both Catholic leagues and regionals,” Nazareno said.
Nazareno credits bowling as one of her best experiences in her time at Mercy High School.
“I was able to meet some of my best friends through bowling,” Nazareno said. “The connections I’ve made because of bowling is something I’m very thankful for.”
“I’ve enjoyed bowling for Mercy Varsity for 4 years and I’m looking forward to my last bowling season here!” Nazareno said.
