Many people remember cutting their hair as a child and feeling embarrassed later as they wondered ‘Why did I do that?’ However, senior Karrah Wanagat recently wielded her own scissors and it turns out, she’s pleased with the outcome.
“At the beginning I did regret it,” said Wanagat. “It was shorter that I had anticipated. But now it’s grown out a little and I like it. I think I want to keep it this length for a while.”
Like many inspired events, this took place late at night after Wanagat had finished her homework and while she was Skyping her friend Kate Anderson, also a senior.
“I stayed up really late,” said Wanagat. “Then decided I wanted to change my life. So I did what they did in Avatar: the Last Airbender and Mulan and I cut my hair.”
Just like in childhood, facing her parents was the tricky part.
“I woke up and my mom yelled at me,” said Wanagat. “Then I had to get it shaped up because my mom thought it looked bad so I went to the salon to get it fixed.”
Besides being brave enough to cut her hair, Wanagat also has the courage to expose her everyday stories to an audience through YouTube as an avid vlogger.
“Right now I have over 1,000 subscribers,” said Wanagat. “I just like to entertain people. It’s a great way to be a different person sometimes; I can be who I want to be.”
Through her YouTube channel, Wanagat befriended people from around the world including Texas, England, and Australia. She plans on having a meet up with her Australian friends soon.
With such a zest for the unconventional, Wanagat will no doubt continue to surprise.
