Film Club, the newest addition to Mercy’s plethora of clubs, has had a successful turnout for their first two showings of Moonrise Kingdom and The Nightmare Before Christmas during their November and December showtimes. Around 15 students came to each showing.
The Film Club has cinema showings throughout the school year and ending in May. There is absolutely no fee required and snacks will be provided. All that is asked from the club moderator, Ms. Abigail Youngerman, is that students sign up using the Google document so there is an estimate of how many students will be attending.
The November meeting was the first official gathering of Film Club.
“I love Film Club,” said Junior Rose Dyar. “It gave me an opportunity to see Moonrise Kingdom in November because I did not get a chance to see it while it was in theatres.”
The Nightmare Before Christmas is considered a hodgepodge of fantasy, animation, and science fiction.
In particular, the concepts of claymation and animation were discussed after the movie. Students watched an in-depth clip about the process of claymation and animation from start to finish.
The January film has not yet been decided.
