A season of change
As the Mercy Varsity Field Hockey (MVFH) season comes to a close, the team managed to put up a good fight in both their Division 1 and Catholic League seasons. This season, the team had to adapt to three new coaches all with different coaching styles and plays. Not only was the team understanding of the situation at hand, the players came together to support one another as teammates.
“I think our greatest accomplishment was being able to adapt to the new coaches as they came and went,” said junior Maeve Lopus.
Although the coaching situation was not ideal, the players made the most of their time on the field. The team even defeated their Catholic League rival, Cranbrook, during a summer tournament at Liggett High School and tied Cranbrook 1-1 during the regular season.
Undoubtedly, there were some bumps in the road and discouraging times among the team. Low spirits, however, did not allow the team to lower the level of intensity in games. The team showed up to each and every practice and game ready to compete.
“The whole team has really been a family, which is why we have persisted through a challenging season,” said sophomore Gabi Micallef.
MVFH hopes to finish the season strong and prepare for an even stronger season next year.
