Mercy’s pompon team has a competition Sunday December 8th at Notre Dame Prep. The competition begins at 1 p.m., but it is advised that spectators arrive early.
The team will be competing against Divine Child, Marian, Notre Dame Prep and Regina. These schools are part of the Bishop division, or the schools in the Catholic League that have a larger student population.
In 2012, the Sectional competition, previously called Jamboree, was created within the Catholic League. Last year, the scores from the Sectional competition were added to the score of Catholic League Competition. At the actual Catholic League competition in January the number one team of the year was announced. Now, Sectionals and Catholic League are two distinctly different competitions with separate winners. The winning team of the Cardinal and Bishop divisions will be announced, but rankings amongst all teams will not.
Each team has the option of performing a pompon, dance, or a high kick routine. Mercy’s team will be performing an original pompon routine which they have been preparing for months. A lot of work has gone into this competition, so make sure to come out and support!
