She shoots, she scores!
This winter season, Mercy High School’s Varsity hockey team is fighting until the very end. “We want to be the Division II state champs,” says junior captain Lauren Hensick. “If we win in Division II, we get moved up to Division I.”
Mercy Varsity hockey has played against some tough competitors such as Ladywood and Grosse Pointe South. With a win against Ladywood, the hockey team keeps their heads high and continues to train hard. The team practices five hours a week with games on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Saturdays.
The hockey team has come together and the girls have become the closest they have ever been. Even with getting a new coach in the middle of the season, their main focus has remained playing topnotch hockey and focusing on their goals.
“I like that after everything we have been through, I still feel I can call them a family,” said Hensick. “We do everything together.”
To see a game of the Marlin Varsity Hockey team, you can watch them play on Tuesday, February 15th against Lake Northern at 8 p.m.
