The Mercy Varsity basketball team faced their rivals, the Marian High Mustangs, for the second time this season but were defeated.
The Marlins beat the Mustangs on January 4th with a score of 41-38 led by senior Janelle McQueen who scored 18 points. This intense game was definitely rewarding to members on the team.
“My favorite game this season so far would probably be the Marian game,” said junior Sarah Benson. “It was such a fun game to play and everyone was so excited.”
With a record of 8-2, the basketball team has led Mercy to many victories this season. Players spend about 16 hours a week practicing, and the hard work and dedication has clearly paid off. All this time together has made the players sisters.
“All of the girls are my sisters and we all get along so well,” said Benson. “You can talk to anyone about anything.”
The Marlins will face the Mustangs at 7 PM Tuesday night in Mercy’s gym. Many Mercy girls are expected to attend to cheer on their fellow classmates. Junior Varsity will play at 5:30 and Freshmen will play at 4:00. Be sure to listen to the announcements to hear which color shirt to wear to the game.
UPDATE: The Marian Mustangs defeated Mercy in a tough face-off 43 to 39.
