Newsprint welcomed junior and senior girls to nominate their “A-Ball” dates for the title of “Christmas Dance King.” Once nominated, boys were interviewed in person by Newsprint staff members. Conner McDowell

How did you and your date meet?
We met at a football game, we had mutual friends. We’ve been dating for over a year and four months now.
Do you know when your date’s birthday is?
March 10th
Why do you want to be Christmas Dance King?
I just think it’s a great opportunity, I just love Mercy, I know a lot of people there. It would just be a fun thing.
What is your favorite chick flick?
The Notebook, because I get pretty emotional when I watch it.
What is your favorite winter activity?
Snowboarding.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
The ability to fly, because I could travel anywhere I wanted to, anytime.
Do you have any secret talents?
I’m really good at snowboarding, but secret talents? I don’t think so, no.
Describe the best day of your life.
The best day of my life was probably when I got my acceptance letter to Catholic Central. Not because I didn’t expect to get in, but because I didn’t expect to get a scholarship, because it helped my parents out with tuition.
Describe your ideal date.
Dinner in downtown Plymouth, then a yoga class, and then a walk through the park.
Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?
Harry Potter, for sure.
If you could have any kind of pet what would it be?
An elephant, because they can pick things up with their trunk, which is awesome.
It’s pasta bar and you have no off hours, what do you do?
I would bring my lunch to class and eat in class.
What’s your greatest fear?
Heights, for sure. Like, when I’m standing at the edge of something.
If you could be a giant hamster or tiny elephant which would you be?
A tiny elephant.
If you were a salesman that could only sell one item for the rest of your life what would it be?
Probably outdoor gear, because it would be fun to listen to people’s adventures.

How did you and your date meet?
We met each other through some mutual friends and then we knew each to her for a while and now she and I have been dating for like a year.

Why do I want to be Christmas King? Cause I would be the best Christmas King ever.
What is your favorite chick flick?
Mean Girls, without a doubt.
What is your favorite winter activity?
Sledding or ice skating, one of those two
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
I think it would be cool to fly.
Do you have any secret talents?
Any secret talent? I can make a clover with my tongue.

Probably getting to play baseball at Comerica Park last year.
Describe your ideal date?
I like to keep things simple, you know, dinner and a movie. We can go wherever she wants to go, I’m pretty traditional.

Harry Potter without a doubt, I hate Lord of the Rings.
If you could have any pet what would it be?
A Bald Eagle, yeah they’re awesome.

I’d skip class definitely to go to the pasta bar.

I’m not afraid of anything.

I’d probably go with the giant hamster… I don’t know that’s the weirdest question I’ve ever been asked.

How did you and your date meet?
Hm. Well I think it was a U of D dance like sophomore year and my friend introduced us because they had gone to school together before and so I just met her and her friends.
Do you know when your date’s birthday is?
Today. It’s the 9th.
Why do you want to be Christmas Dance King?
Probably because I love Mercy so much. I’ve been here for 8 years with my old sister, who went there and now she’s in college and I have two younger sisters- ones actually at the school now- so I’m going to be here for another 8 years, you guys aren’t getting rid of me yet. I love the people at Mercy, those are the people that I like to hang out with.
What is your favorite chick flick?
Mean Girls…uhh it’s hilarious.
What is your favorite winter activity?
Snow ball fight. Actually can I change that answer to sledding instead?
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Probably to fly.
Do you have any secret talents?
Do they have to be secret? …I play the piano.
Describe the best day of your life.
The best day of my life… Actually, it was probably last Friday. I don’t know if it was actually like four. I had just finished leading Kairos for U of D and it was the best days of my life. I don’t know, I guess Friday was my last day so, I want to say that day.
Describe your ideal date?
Taking out a Mercy girl.

Harry Potter, for sure.
If you could have any pet what would it be?
A dog.

Assuming that I go to Mercy? I would have my little sister Nicole buy me some pasta and deliver it to my class. Wait; is pasta bar like a good thing?
What’s your greatest fear?
Like anything? I don’t know, probably watching a scary movie like Paranormal Activity. I will not watch that.
If you could be a giant hamster or tiny elephant which would you be?
Is that like a trick question? Probably a giant hamster…nobody wants to play with a tiny elephant.
If you were a salesman that could only sell one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
These are tough. Flowers. So I can make every girls day.

Matt Wallace

If you could have any animal in the world as a pet what would it be?
I love dogs, I really do. I like smaller dogs, and bigger dogs too. I don’t know a really nice dog.. Lab, there you go.
What’s your favorite winter activity?
Ice skating, I love ice skating!
Describe your ideal date.
Well it would be to, first of all, go to dinner, probably a nicer restaurant, and then I would probably take her out for a walk after, then I don’t know, a movie! Then I would take her home after. I don’t know, I like those dates, they’re nice and simple.
If you could be a giant hamster or a tiny elephant which would you be?
Um, I would love to be a giant hamster, that would be the coolest thing in the world. I’d be fluffy!

How did you and your date meet?
Well, my date is actually my girlfriend. We met at a theater camp, a summer camp. It was a good time, we met there, we became friends and now we’re more than that I guess.

What’s your worst fear?
My worst fear, oh. My worst fear is probably, I don’t know what my worst fear is actually, I haven’t thought about that. I don’t like spiders.

It’s so corny. I could say when I met my girlfriend. Best day of my life.

I mean, I’m in theater, that’s not really a secret talent, I sing, dance, and act

It would definitely be to be invisible. That would be the coolest thing ever. I would probably sit in on secret meetings.

Max Williams

How did you and your date meet?
We met at a Mercy volleyball game because my brother and I went to all of them because he is good friends with one of the girls on the team.

September 9th. That’s why 9 is her favorite number.
If you could have any pet what would it be?
I would probably say a dog- I already have two, a Boxer and French Bulldog.

I just think Mercy is awesome and I went to all their volleyball games and my date told me she would nominate me.

Someone who’s fun and outgoing and can have a good time.
What’s your biggest fear?
Umm, I don’t know. Probably heights maybe, they freak me out. I don’t like being high up.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
To fly, even though I’m scared of heights, I think it’d be sweet to fly.

Snowboarding- I went to Colorado last year with my cousin and brother

Probably on my 16th birthday when I could drive by myself- that was pretty fun, even though my twin brother was in the car, because he never leaves my side.

I have had so many good days. Some would be going to Lake Fenton with my friends and tubing.

A dog. I’ve never been able to have one because my dad is allergic to them.
