On Tuesday, April 8, Mercy students had their class meetings to determine the new class officers for each grade. Specifically, the current Sophomore class elections looked a little different from everyone else’s. With only five candidates running and five spots available, everyone who ran automatically got a spot as a Junior Class Officer. Ellie Jamieson, Emme Evans, Cailin Harvill, Katie Hastings, and Elizabeth Stachelek all have the privilege of being on student council once again.
Ellie Jamieson, who has been on student council since freshman year, speaks about why she thinks she is a good candidate and her plans for next year.
“I think I am a good candidate because I have been a class officer before and have experience in the role but also because I focus on listening to my classmates. I want to create memories for them and it is really what drives me to work hard to produce events like homecoming and spirit week,” Ellie Jamison said.
Another one of the class officers, Elizabeth Stachelek, talks about how she campaigned. She handed out Easter themed candy, plastic eggs, and erasers a week before the election.
She states, “I always make sure I can dedicate a couple hours for assembling goodies!” Stachelek said.
