Yesterday marked Mercy’s annual Grandparents Day Mass, and invited several families to join in celebration. Family members and guardians arrived this morning to greet their girls and take their seats in Mercy’s 1200 person auditorium.
Father Denis Thoreux took to the stage and opened with some laughs, while it brought together students, families, and grandparents for a morning of reflection, gratitude, and connection. During prayer, students offered prayers of thanksgiving and reflected on the love they receive from their grandparents.
“I have been bringing my mom and grandma since freshman year. They enjoy it every time,” senior Mia Bruno said.
For many girls, this annual event at Mercy isn’t anything new to them, and between grandparents there are many familiar faces. For others, this was their first time attending. They were wowed by the student contribution, as girls from all grades were actively involved in the mass, leading prayers and offering different perspectives and reflections.
Following the annual mass, visitors were welcomed to a small reception in the Mercy gymnasium, where they were offered food, drinks, and opportunities to meet others. There was a large variety of each, and they were invited to sit at decorated tables covered in maroon and gold for Mercy colors. The Mercy Marlin even made an appearance, taking pictures with students and families.
