On Wednesday, October 15th, Mercy students engaged in blanket making for the second annual Mercy Make a Difference Day: MAD 365.
Students gathered in their advisor groups to complete a cohesive service project. Each advisor group was given the task of making 5 blankets for Fleece and Thank You, an organization that accepts donations like blankets. Located in Farmington Hills, MI, the nonprofit will provide our blankets to children in hospitals in the area.
This year was the first time blanking encapsulated the entire event, instead of combining it with our Community Connections Fair like we did last year.
The event was most definitely a success.
“It was really fun and I really enjoyed getting to spend time with the people in my advisor and doing a fun activity with them,” Senior Clare Hafner said.
Furthermore, it has inspired and encouraged Mercy students to pursue service in the near future.
”I enjoy doing things like that more than outdoor work,” Junior Maddie Kazak said.
Still, there are things we can improve on to make the event even better next year.
“I did learn that we need more blankets for next year. Some advisor groups worked right until the end, and others got done really fast,” MAD Coordinator Mrs. Bennetts said.
In total, Mercy students created 110 blankets for donation. “That’s 110 lives we’ve impacted,” Bennetts said. This is a remarkable increase from the 75 blankets we made last year. The Mercy community is truly showcasing our commitment to serve others!
