Here are all the questions Newsprint asked this year’s five candidates and this is what they had to say:
JAXSON
Why do you think you deserve to be Christmas King?
“I’m already a Mercy girl. I already spend most of my time here so why not just make it official? Put me in the Mercy canon.”
What do you like to do for fun?
“I do a lot of acting and singing. I also play a lot of video games and do a lot of writing, like comics.”
If you were stuck at the North Pole, what three things would you take with you?
“A toboggan because there’s a lot of snow and I could go sledding for free; a dog because it could pull around the sled; and food for me and the dog because it’s a retreat, get me away.”
What present would you make for your date this year?
“I would make a little Christmas basket and put a Doja Cat vinyl and a Mariah Carey vinyl because [Izzy] just went to see Mariah Carey and is about to see Doja Cat. And maybe some chocolates or sweets in there too.”
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
“When I was a kid, I would say the presents. But, honestly, the vibes are so immaculate because of the snow, the lights. There are so many good Christmas candles that I just grab one and put it in my room. They smell so good. It smells like when I was a kid. And the music, I know it starts in November and way too early, but I’m not gonna lie, it’s peak. Some of the greatest songs ever.”
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“Arthur Christmas. It’s a classic.”
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
“Some platforms Doc Martens.”
What is your ideal Christmas date?
“Going to something like Greenfield Village with a bunch of those little Christmas pop-ups and not even buying anything because it’s too expensive. Just look at it and be like ‘aww this is nice.’ Do some extravagant window shopping. And get some hot cocoa, do some ice skating, and watch some carolers go by.”
What is the best part about Christmas?
“Honestly, the vibes. Just being there with your family and friends with all the decorations. During Christmas break, it feels like time isn’t real and is stopped and the world is happy for just a little bit and then we get back to it.”
What Christmas character would you choose to be?
“The conductor from Polar Express.”
If you were a salesman and could only sell one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“Teslas.”

Why do you think you deserve to be Christmas King?
“I think I deserve to be Christmas King because I embody that Christmas spirit. As soon as Christmas is over, I look forward to the next one. And Santa just never leaves my mind.”
What do you like to do for fun?
“I like to run, play video games, hang out with my girlfriend, and look forward to Christmas.”
If you were stuck at the North Pole, what three things would you take with you?
“A camera so I could get a picture with the big man; my Christmas list, of course; and probably some building tools so I could help out the elves.”
What present would you make for your date this year?
“I already have some ideas and I don’t want to give them away, but if I could make one, I would write a nice letter about her.”
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
“My favorite thing about Christmas is just being around my family and my loved ones and eating Christmas cookies.”
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“My favorite Christmas movie has to be Elf. I feel like I just embody Buddy.”
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
“I have a great Christmas list, but it would just be time with my family and time with my girlfriend.”
What is your ideal Christmas date?
“Walking around Rochester lights because they’re sweet and also watching Christmas movies all day while baking cookies.”
What is the best part about Christmas?
“Waking up on Christmas morning, not just for the presents, but also for your family, and then going over to your loved ones’ houses.”
What Christmas character would you choose to be?
“Like I said, Buddy the elf because I feel like I embody him even though he’s not necessarily an elf. He’s an elf at heart so that makes him special.”
If you were a salesman and could only sell one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“Probably like stocks.”
MICHAEL
Why do you think you deserve to be Christmas King?
“I think I should be Christmas King because I’m the most festive and I have the best Christmas socks.”
What do you like to do for fun?
“Snowboarding, wakeboarding, and snowball fights.”
If you were stuck at the North Pole, what three things would you take with you?
“Oranges, pop tarts, and Abby Locy.”
What present would you make for your date this year?
“A stool so she can be taller.”
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
“The snow. Snowboarding and family time too.”
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“Elf. Next question.”
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
“A ski jacket from dope snow.”
What is your ideal Christmas date?
“The slopes. Make sugar cookies and watch college football.”
What is the best part about Christmas?
“The lights on the tree.”

“Olaf.”

“Ugg slippers.”

Why do you think you deserve to be Christmas King?
“I’m very personable and I love the Marlins.”
What do you like to do for fun?
“I play lacrosse, a little bit of Xbox, and I hang with Ren.”
If you were stuck at the North Pole, what three things would you take with you?
“I would bring Ren, a blanket, and Home Alone.”
What present would you make for your date this year?
“Probably a necklace.”
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
“Hanging out and doing activities with my beautiful Queen.”
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“Home Alone.”
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
“Spending time with Ren.”
What is your ideal Christmas date?
“Taking Ren ice skating.”
What is the best part about Christmas?
“Buying gifts for Ren.”
What Christmas character would you choose to be?
“Scrooge.”
If you were a salesman and could only sell one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“Pens because I like pens.”
ALISTAIR
Why do you think you deserve to be Christmas King?
“I think it’s less about what I deserve; I think that Hannah deserves this for her. She puts in so much work for Mercy theater, it’s insane, and she deserves to be recognized in front of the whole school.”
What do you like to do for fun?
“I really like reading and rock climbing with my friend Alvin. I also like hiking.”
If you were stuck at the North Pole, what three things would you take with you?
“Why would I bring [Hannah] to the North Pole? I wouldn’t want [her] to freeze. Hannah; a coat; and my dog.”
What present would you make for your date this year?
“So I got her a custom book embosser so all of her books can have her name on them, like ‘From the library of Hannah Kennedy.’ “
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
“I’m still amazed by the snow. Like how do you live like this? Coming from Mexico, I always wanted to see it when I was younger.”
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“Elf is always good.”
What is at the top of your Christmas list?
“Hiking boots.”
What is your ideal Christmas date?
“We’re gonna go to Royal Oak and we’re toma cafe. And get coffee and breakfast there. Then, we’re gonna go to the zoo and spend the day there. After that, we’ll get lunch or dinner.”
What is the best part about Christmas?
“The snow.”

“The Abominable Snowman from the Rudolph movie.”
