Senior seals take on spirit day
The 55 degree weather and the chilly breeze did not stop the Class of 2017 from enjoying each other’s company for the Senior Tailgate during Spirit Week. The Senior Tailgate and Field Day have been longstanding Mercy traditions. Starting bright and early at 7 a.m., the entire senior class gathered in the Mercy parking lot. As always, the giant flag depicting the senior class’ theme was proudly displayed. This year, the theme is “Senior Seals,” paying homage to the fitness of and admiration for U.S. Navy SEALs. Every senior sported a black and purple shirt featuring the words “Operation: Graduate” on the back. The theme, the shirt, and the flag may be little things, but they help bond the senior class together.
“Our time is running out together and so we try to make the most of it. Most of us [had] been waiting eagerly for four years to experience the Tailgate and Spirit Day as seniors,” said senior Alaina Skellett.
Later that day, the seniors once again banded together for Field Day. The cheering and the chanting is so loud, the gym floor shakes with the vibrations. Not surprisingly, the seniors won the Field Day competition.
