The members of B.A.S.E. voted for the officers of the 2015-2016 school year. The elected will assume their positions in August.

Vice President: Chanel Taylor

Treasurer: Darrien Fordham

Secretary: Paisley Sutton

The board’s main goal is expanding the club. Plans for next year include volunteer opportunities for the girls, more hands-on activities, and field trips.

“We want to educate people outside the club,” said treasurer Darrien Fordham. “We need to reach those who don’t come to the meetings.”

B.A.S.E. is going to take on bigger projects and needs greater involvement from its members. The biggest event B.A.S.E will be hosting is a diversity forum to which local schools will be invited, an event similar to U of D Jesuit’s annual B.A.S.E. forum. The leaders of B.A.S.E. are working on expanding their contacts to hold workshops and invite a panel of speakers.

The 2014-2015 board was instrumental in changing the culture of B.A.S.E. and broadening its diversity. Next year’s leaders plan on keeping up that momentum.

“With guidance from our advisors we will make this the best year yet,” said junior President Arin Bell. “We will remember our founders and make them proud.”

In the past few years B.A.S.E. has collaborated with diversity clubs from U of D and West Bloomfield and the new leaders want to work with new schools such as North Farmington, Cass Tech, and Catholic Central. Becoming more involved in the community and engaging members is a target goal for the 2015-2016 school year. Members will be involved in board decisions with a voting system.

The board will begin meeting in the summer to plan for the school year ahead.
