They dropped it like it was hot. They got jiggy with it. They busted a few moves. It was one of the best dance performances to take place on the Mercy auditorium stage ever.
Mercy students were not disappointed when Team Maroon and Team Gold took the stage Wednesday to compete in the much-anticipated Sweeps Dance-Off. The teachers of each respective team had been boasting non-stop about how long their team had been practicing, how sore they were from all their dancing, and how they would give a great show. Announcements were made daily by both teams reminding students to sell tickets if they wanted to see the dance-off of the century.
The trash-talking reached an all-time high between teams as the assembly approached. But it took just ten minutes for the Mercy students to decide who the champions were.
Team Gold, consisting of Ms. Callan, Mr. Gerardi, Mr. Meloche, Mrs. Dennis, Mrs. Brown, and Mrs. Schrimscher, came out with a bang, but they ultimately clinched the win when they brought out the belly dancing. Team Maroon, made up of Ms. Robinet, Mr. Skellet, Mrs. Richter, Mr. Morris, and Mrs. Riley, put up a good fight, but the loss of fellow teammate Mrs. Kusch due to an injury and the swag of the Gold Team was just too much.
The students of Mercy got what they bargained for. The dance-off lived up to expectations and made selling all of the Sweepstakes tickets worthwhile. Students enjoyed it so much that videos of the competition have even made it on to YouTube.
