Putting the pumpkin in Pumpkin Spice Latte
The Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) is back for the fall season and, this time, it contains real pumpkin.
Starbucks’s most popular seasonal drink of all time was released on Sept. 8 with the new ingredient.
Last fall, many customers and avid PSL fans found out about the artificial flavoring of the drink and Starbucks received various complaints regarding the ingredients. In response, Director of Espresso and Brewed Coffee Peter Dukes released a blog statement on the company’s website early this summer, which revealed that the PSL would be back and even better.
“After hearing from customers and partners about ingredients, we took another look at this beverage and why we created it so many years ago,” Dukes stated in the blog.
And thus, the new and improved PSL was created.
According the Starbucks website, the drink no longer contains the artificial caramel coloring that previously gave it an orange shade.
“So, with that great taste you know and love, the PSL returns this fall,” Dukes wrote. “This time it will be made with real pumpkin and without caramel coloring.”
While some Starbucks lovers rejoice, others feel indifferent about the changes.
“I don’t care either way,” said Starbucks fan senior Phil Engel.
