“Positions” album review
Ariana Grande’s much awaited new album “Positions” debuted on Oct. 30. The teaser song “Positions” that came out just about a week before the album release, had Grande fans on their toes. Unlike previous albums that portrayed heartbreak due to her many losses in the past couple years, Grande’s sixth album has a low-key and bubbly vibe.
Though the recent traumas in Ariana’s life have affected her music, she has persevered, compared to other artists who have not been able to come back from tragedies. In 2017, during her “Dangerous Woman” tour, one of her performances was attacked. In 2018 Ariana lost her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. Through the losses she endured, she came out with music that reflected her feelings, but this new album is a whole new look on Ariana.
The 14 songs flow well throughout the album, and are more similar to R&B compared to her past pop music. She expresses herself unapologetically, and she is direct and honest with her message. Similarly, the opening song of the album “Shut Up” is direct and conveys an attitude to an ex-boyfriend. She also reveals a mature side, with her features Doja Cat, The Weeknd, and Ty Dolla $ign. Overall, Ariana shows fans a new side of herself and her music that will definitely be enjoyed.
