Country superstar Hunter Hayes visited the Fox Theatre Detroit on November 10 to a very enthusiastic welcome at a sold-out concert.
The opening act of the “Let’s Get Crazy Tour” was country singer Ashley Monroe. She was accompanied by a band and backup singers that helped her wow the crowd with her five songs.
Hunter Hayes sang his entire new album, which is comprised of 20 songs. After his impressive opening act, Hayes stopped playing his guitar to interact with the crowd, repeatedly asking “How we doing Detroit?” Hayes, a very energetic performer, kept the audience entertained by dancing around the stage and running from side to side. He truly is a musical entertainer and wants to engage with his audience.
In one of his breaks, Hayes stated that, “I can’t believe you sold this entire theatre out. It’s incredible. This is, without a doubt, the biggest crowd we’ve had the whole tour.”
Later in the show, he covered “On Top of the World” by Emagine Dragons, which surprised many members of the audience. Two songs later, Hayes paid tribute to the brave men and women of the army with his song “Where We Left Off”, which was inspired by the movie Act of Valor. With just three songs remaining, Hayes wrapped up the show with a piano rendition of “Wanted” and lively performances of “Light Me Up” and “Better Than This”. Once the final note had been sung and the final chord had been strummed, Hayes thanked the crowd and exited the stage.
However, after two minutes of constant cheering, Hayes re-entered the stage for an encore. His first song was his duet of “What You Gonna Do” with Ashley Monroe that left the audience a little more than teary-eyed. His final song of the night was an explosive performance of his current smash-single “I Want Crazy”.
I thoroughly enjoyed the concert because I am an avid country listener and concert-goer. However, I thought the Fox Theatre was too small of a venue for Hayes to perform in because he is a current country superstar. Hopefully next time I attend his concert, he will be at a more suitable venue such as The Palace, Comerica Park, or Ford Field. I was satisfied for the most part because I definitely wanted more crazy.
