Enthusiastic bursts of applause greeted the Mercy choir performance of Pizza, Jams and Jeans on Oct. 9. The singers performed songs from the soundtracks of modern releases and timeless classics. The concert opened with all choirs joining to sing “Let’s Go to the Movies” from the movie, Annie. The number was followed by Glee 1 singing “Down by the River to Pray” from the award-winning film, O Brother, Where Art Thou.
Many soloists took center stage and belted out soundtrack pieces like “Cups” from Pitch Perfect, “Safe and Sound” from The Hunger Games and “People” from Funny Girl. Glee II took the stage with the heart-wrenching classic, “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic and finished with their soulfully sung gospel piece, “Joyful, Joyful” from The Sister Act 2.
Mercyaires performed two of the most well-known soundtrack numbers including an a Capella version of “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. They closed the concert with a show-stopping performance of “Singing in the Rain”, complete with umbrellas and a kick line.
