Passion Pit’s sold-out performance at the Royal Oak Music Theater on Nov. 2nd was a crowd-pleasing success. The two opening acts, Hollerado and Youngblood Hawke, caught the crowd’s attention and kept it. They were talented musicians and performers. Although the crowd was there to see Passion Pit, they sang and swayed with the up-and-coming openers.
When Passion Pit finally took the stage, the crowd erupted. They started with their recent hit “Take a Walk” off of their new album Gossamer. The crowd loved every second of it, and weren’t afraid to sing along.
The rest of the show was met with equal enthusiasm, if not more. When the band resurrected hits off of their 2009 album Manners and 2008 E.P. Chunk of Change, the crowd completely lost it. The audience standing in the general admission section of the theater jumped to the beat and belted out the lyrics.
The lighting was one of the highlights of the show. The light crew did a superb job creating an amazing visual effect. The audience was captivated and mesmerized by the creative light shows, which really completed the concert experience.
One minor flaw in the Passion Pit concert was the dull showmanship displayed by some members of the band. Although they had a great sound and produced quality music, they didn’t really put in an effort to put on a good show. The lead singer Michael Angelakos raced back and forth across the stage and tried to engage the audience, but the rest of the band just passively played their instruments.
Regardless of the lackluster performance of some band members, Passion Pit put on a fun and enjoyable concert. The crowd loved every minute, demanding an encore and cheering on the band. The choreographed light show and the powerful voice of Angelakos worked to create a strong show.
