ABC Family leaps into the Christmas season
Nothing feels better than curling up with a blanket and popcorn on a cold winter evening to watch a classic Christmas film. With windows fogged up from the frigid outdoor air and a warm home that smells of Christmas cookies and burning firewood, a Christmas classic is the perfect addition. ABC Family makes this festive setting very easy to create.
To kick off the Christmas celebrations each year, ABC Family hosts its famous 25-day countdown from Dec. 1 to Christmas day, Dec 25. On each evening of the countdown, ABC Family plays a family-friendly Christmas film. Some of these favorite holiday films consist of Elf starring Will Ferrell, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation starring Chevy Chase, The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen, The Polar Express starring Tom Hanks, Disney’s A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carey, Miracle on 34th Street starring Richard Attenborough and Elizabeth Perkins, Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carey, and Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin.
For junior cousins Hannah Cohen and Sabrina Yancey, ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas is what officially begins the holiday season.
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is my all-time favorite Christmas movie,” said Cohen. “It’s sad that it is a Christmas movie because I could watch it on TV all year round; it’s hilarious.”
In fact, Cohen, Yancey, and the rest of their family plan to sit by the fire to enjoy this favorite holiday movie after a day of setting up Christmas decorations.
“I love watching Christmas movies with Hannah each year because she laughs at the exact same scenes that she has laughed at every other year,” said Yancey.
Sophomore Sophie Van Acker waits each year for first airing of her favorite movie, Elf.
“For me, Christmas time starts in October, but once Buddy the Elf is on ABC Family[’s] 25 Days of Christmas, I am officially fired up,” said Van Acker.
