Mercy Fashion Show: it’s back
Calling all fashionistas; if you want to see some of the seniors, parents, and active women in the Mercy community strut their stuff on the runway, mark your calendars for Sunday, Oct. 26. The Mother’s Club will be debuting “2014 Fall into Fabulous Fashion,” which it is calling a “fresh, fun event that all students would like to attend.”
Chairwomen Daena Nicolas and Kay Pfaff hope the new modifications will help the event grow into “a social event for past, present, and future Mercy girls to gather and reminisce.”
Tickets cost $50 per person. The price includes lunch, drinks, and “delicious fall dessert.” The fashion show begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. and lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m.
Since there was no fashion show last year due to a lack of interest, the chairwomen decided to revamp the event in hopes of attracting new attendees. Some of the new changes are the location and the quality of the clothing modeled and available for purchase. The event will take place at the Suburban Showplace in Novi.
“We feel that the new location gives the event a more updated, modern feel,” said Nicolas.
Those modeling will sport outfits exclusively from the Clothing Cove located in Milford. The boutique offers trendy yet affordable clothing, with widespread options from casual wear to homecoming and evening gowns.
This year, the Clothing Cove is showcasing beautiful white gowns that seniors could potentially buy for graduation at the event. The Clothing Cove will have other outfits available for purchase, as well.
“I modeled in the fashion show my freshman year, and it was a lot of fun,” said senior Emily Gates. “I mean the whole modeling part was awkward. . . but I loved picking out the outfit and it actually was my first time getting my makeup done so that was fun.”
The fashion show will also feature a Chinese raffle and 60 different baskets with themes ranging from gift cards to Mercy to local Catholic school attire.
All proceeds will go to the Mercy Mother’s Club to help finance ongoing Mercy activities including support of athletics and building updates.
Both Nicolas and Pfaff believe the fashion show is not only a great way to establish a Mercy tradition but also to create long lasting memories.
“It definitely is an event to attend,” said senior Maddy Flyte. “My mom and I had such a great time when we went,” she said with a smile.
