Mercy track and Field competed against Divine Child on Tuesday April 30th at Divine Child and lost. Although they did lose, they placed in 13 of the events.
“I think as a whole we gave our best effort,” said junior distance runner Katelyn Toloff.
Mercy came in first in three of the events. Freshman Arianna Allman placed first in high jump with a height of 5’0 feet. Junior Elon Pendleton also came in first in Discus with a throw the length of 105’10 feet. Lastly, junior Allysen Eads placed first in the 3200 meter (two mile) race with a time of 12:35.
Other events that Mercy placed in included shot put, discus, the 4×800 meter relay, 100 meter dash, 4×200 meter relay, 1600 meter run (one mile), 4×100 meter relay, 400 meter dash, 300 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, and the 4×400 meter relay.
Eads was the only runner on the distance team to place in the distance events. Eads came in second in the 1600 meter (1 mile) race with a time of 5:43.38. Divine Child’s first place runner was only ten seconds before her with a time of 5:33.60. This will be Eads third year on the track team.
“Even though we did not win many events, our whole team stayed positive and continued to cheer each other on,” said Eads.
