Results from the 2010 Census show that Detroit has suffered a loss of one quarter of its population. Michigan was the only state with a decline in population from 2000-2010. Although many were expecting a population decrease, most did not expect the population to dip in numbers so close to Detroit before the auto-boom. In an effort to combat funding cuts, Detroit mayor, Dave Bing, is determined to find up to 40,000 people who may not have responded to the census. In order to successfully find these people, the city must use building permit information to find the addresses.
