Throughout our day we use little things that seem so insignificant to our daily lives but in truth are things we take for granted. Given that it’s the Lenten season, it’s the perfect time to recall the, what seem to be, ordinary things and give thanks that we have them day after day. Here are just a few examples:
Snooze Button: Waking up for school or work is one of the hardest things we have to do every day. One thing that makes it a little more bearable? The snooze button. Knowing that one button can give us even an extra five minutes of sleep is a gift we can all cherish.
Pocket: Something not many people would think of as an extraordinary creation but something we are always using. Mercy girls especially know that a pocket is a life saver. Where else would we keep our money, our lip gloss, and our phones?
Dollar Menu: Not all of us have money flowing out of our pockets so those special deals that give us yummy food for cheap are always the preference when our stomachs are growling, especially for us Mercy girls. Getting a meal for a few dollars or a whole pizza or foot long sub for $5 is a good investment in my book.
Gum: I don’t know about you but whenever I’m not eating or at church, I usually have a piece of gum in my mouth. Though some may annoy you with their obsession with popping bubbles, how could you not be thankful for something that makes your breath smell minty fresh!
Google: How many times have you had a question about anything and someone would simply reply “Google it.” This search engine has changed the world and even though most of us have had it around our whole lives, it’s an amazing invention that we use all the time and our lives wouldn’t be the same without it.
We tend to overlook a lot in our daily lives. So stop and think, then praise God for the little things that get us through the day!
