In the famous words of Alicia Keys, “[these] girls are on fire!” The Mercy varsity basketball team has been proving that they truly are unstoppable. On February 4th, the Marlins clinched a share of first place in the Catholic League Central with a convincing 58 to 28 win against Livonia Ladywood. The Marlins improve to 12-1 for the season.
The girls will share a first place trophy with longtime rival Marian, after the two split wins against each other. Senior co-captain Candice Leatherwood said the girls are not done yet.
“We want to first win Catholic Leagues and then win Regionals, which would be big for the school who hasn’t won a Regional title in a while,” said Leatherwood.
If the Marlins continue their winning streak, they will most likely face Marian for the third time this season in the Catholic League Finals.
“We’re ready to work hard and do whatever it takes to win,” said Leatherwood.
