Lent is a time to remake yourself. It is a time to rid yourself of vices and faults. It is a time to develop and strengthen positive qualities. Traditionally, people give up or abstain from something they enjoy, such as candy, coffee, or fast food.
Lent can also be a time to reflect on who we are. “You Are More” by Tenth Avenue North is a great song to listen to and reflect upon. The message of the song is that each of us have the power to remake ourselves. We have it within us to change our attitudes and break the pattern of our past decisions.
As the lyrics say:
“You are more than the choices that you’ve made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You’ve been remade.”
As Lent begins tomorrow, watch this music video. Watch as the water washes away all the negativity on the chalk board. As the board, our conscience, past, or “slate” can be wiped clean. Lent can spark a new beginning.
