This year’s theme for the annual Black History Month assembly was the Evolution of an African American Girl. This theme was inspired by the lack of African American representation in the historical American Girl dolls that most Mercy girls are very much familiar with. The assembly was postponed from its original reservation in the last week of February due to a snow storm. Still, silence blanketed the auditorium as Mercy students portrayed the journey of African Americans from the perspective of a teenage girl. Students were encouraged to imagine themselves in the shocking situations that were depicted for them.
