Have you ever struggled in a class, and need a little bit of extra help? Mercy’s chapter of the National Honor Society offers tutoring to any student who needs some extra help.

Each member of NHS is required to tutor at least twice a year, so every Wednesday after school until 3:30 p.m., a group of NHS members can be found in Mr. Meloche’s room (N17) ready to help out students in a wide variety of subjects.

Senior Courtney Richards tutored recently, and had a positive experience.

“Having the chance to tutor through NHS gives me a chance to share my knowledge and show my fellow classmates how school can be important,” said Richards. “It is important to me to emphasize the importance of an education and taking learning to a higher level.”

National Honor Society is an organization for students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Character. The tutoring program that National Honor Society offers allows its members to display merit in all four of these areas while also helping out anyone struggling in school.

“Tutoring is fundamental. I used to come to NHS tutoring when I was a freshman and a sophomore so I’m glad to be able to give back,” said senior Allison Wise.

The service is free of charge and open to all Mercy students. If a student is struggling with a subject, or just wants to review before a test with a tutor, she is welcome to pay a visit.

“NHS tutoring is very helpful. I was having trouble in English and coming to NHS made it easier,” said freshman Abigail Przekop.
