Mercy has a new club for those interested in law and debate. The Mock Trial club will compete in competitions, giving students a chance to become familiar with the trial process. It is a national program. Teams are formed and each team is given a case assignment.
“It is an actual legal case from start to finish,” said co-moderator Mrs. Trish Brown.
Students re-enact court cases. The team is generally made of six to ten students. Try-outs are Wednesday, October 10th. Two sessions will be held after school (3:00-4:00 p.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m.) in the Drama Studio.
For the try-outs prospective members should be prepared to tell the panel a few things about themselves, why they feel they would be a valuable addition to the team, and why they feel Mock Trial is a beneficial program for Mercy. Students will be evaluated on clearly stated points, preparedness, professional presence, and poise.
For those who have always enjoyed law or want to try a new way of public speaking and researching, keep Mock Trial in mind.
