Mercy Lacrosse won their first post-season game 19-5 against Ann Arbor Skyline Tuesday. After previously losing to Skyline 11-12 during the season, Mercy proved that they were not ready to throw in their sticks and call it a season.
“This is what we’ve worked for all season girls,” said Coach Courtney Van Antwerp prior to the game. “Go out there and leave it all on the field.
The team definitely took Van Antwerp’s words to heart. Junior Lexi Sha, who scored 7 goals during the game, hopes to be playing until June 9th in the state finals game.
Senior captain Ally Shrader could not be more proud of her team.
“The main difference between last year’s team and this year’s team is work ethic.” Shrader further explained that Mercy has always had a talented team but this year the team has finally put those skills to work.
“Everything just flows as if we have been playing together for years,” Shrader says
The team who has been playing together since mid-March just finished their season Wednesday, May 16, with a 6-6-0 record.
“Post season is a time for every girl to reevaluate her commitment to the sport,” says coach Lindsay Hoyt. “We’ve come a long way, but we still have things to work on over the next couple of weeks.”
The team is scheduled to play their regional semi-final game against the winner of the match between Saline High School and Farmington High School. The date of the semi-final game is scheduled for 7 pm May 30th at Farmington High School.
