After weeks of campaigning, strategizing, and preparing, the freshman officer candidates prepared themselves for the final task: a speech in front of their entire class.
On September 10, all freshmen were called to the gym for a class meeting where they would decide who they want to represent their grade for the 2024-2025 school year. Of the 110 freshmen in the 2028 graduating class, there were a staggering twelve applicants or 10.9% percent of the freshmen class.
The elections started with each girl giving a two-minute speech as to why they believed they would best represent the class. Then, a question was randomly pulled and asked each girl on numerous topics. However, running for officer was no easy task as these impromptu answers were given to the entirety of the class.
“When giving my speech to my classmates I was nervous,” said officer candidate Cameron Sanders. “I was glad to be able to formally introduce myself to everyone.”
After all candidates had their chance to persuade their classmates, votes were cast on class officers and the class color.
After the votes were tallied up, it was revealed that pink will be the freshmen color for the next four years. After this news was announced and all students were dismissed, freshmen class moderator, Mrs. Muscat revealed the news to the winners: Sona Cranson, Adriana Dwyer, Rachael Ramjattan, Grace Sullivan, and Cameron Sanders.
“After I was told I was one of the class officers, I was so happy that all the work I put into my posters and campaigning paid off,” said Sanders. “I am so excited to be able to have this opportunity.”
