September 8 is a day to celebrate our grandparents, deceased or alive, and cherish the moments we have with them. The Grandparent’s Day Mass on September 9 was very important to girls and grandparents alike, especially to seniors who are graduating next year. Often, it is hard to keep in touch with grandparents as much as we would like to and will most likely only get more difficult when going off to college.

“Mercy is such a big part of my life and getting to share that with the people I love so much was so wonderful,” said senior Katie Mueller.

After mass, students had the opportunity to show their grandparents around the school which was a very personal experience for them.

“It was a great opportunity for them to see what my high school experience has been, and they loved to see the school,” said senior Sophia Agrusa.

At mass itself, many of the musically inclined students were able to show their talents by singing for their grandparents. Fr. Jerry even commented on how loud the singing sounded with grandparents there, compared to usual.

The Spirit Choir sang and solos were performed by junior Maddie Suroweic and senior Maeve Lopus, who also played guitar.

“My grandma coming meant a lot because she got to see me sing and she got to come to Mercy and be in the Mercy community again since she went there,” said Lopus.
