For the second year in a row, the Mercy Varsity Bowling team defeated Regina on Saturday, February 18 for the Catholic League Title. Mercy tied Ladywood for first in the division during the regular season with an 8-2 record.
Mercy qualified as the first seed going into the playoffs, 34 pins ahead of 2nd place Regina. They beat Marian in the first round before advancing to the second round to take on Ladywood. After winning the first game, Mercy dropped the second game by one pin. Mercy stormed back against their rivals to win the third game to continue to the final round.
In the championship round, Mercy defeated Regina 149 – 136 in the first game and 159 – 147 in the second game to defend their title. This was Mercy’s fourth Catholic League title in five years.
Some of Mercy’s own received Catholic Honors. Senior Kathleen Abenes received All-Academic Honors. Sophomore Lauren Melanson received All-League Honors. Junior Maria Walawender received All-Catholic Honors.
