Another astounding auction
Mercy parents, staff, and alumnae came together on Feb. 24 at St. Mary’s Cultural Center in an effort to support the school in Mercy’s annual auction. The evening started with silent bidding. The auction items ranged from gift baskets to jewelry and Mercy spirit gear. Then, the Mercyaires kicked off dinner with a spectacular performance. Principal’s Pick, a tradition created by Mercy’s former principal, Mrs. Carolyn Witte, was carried on by Principal Patricia Sattler. This year, Mrs. Sattler’s wish came in two stages. The first stage involves a new lighting system for Mercy’s auditorium. After the first stage is completed, the second stage will focus on fixing the stage floor. Mrs. Sattler’s first wish was endowed in full by a very generous donor, and the auction was able to raise about half of the cost of the second wish. The night ended with various bids for large live auction items such as one year’s tuition at University of Detroit Mercy and a Detroit River Cruise graduation party for 150 people.
