“As long as I can remember, I’ve always just loved movies, drama, and theater. What really sparked my love for movies is my parents. When I was growing up, my dad would always watch movies with me and take me to movies. My mom would do the same, and she also brought musicals and acting into my life. All of that really combined, and I just realized how much I loved it.
[At Mercy], I’m the light board operator, and . . . I do a lot more than just turn on the lights. I design the lights with the help of Mrs. McDougall, I set them up, and record them. I never expected myself to join a crew like that because when I was growing up I would act, but I never did anything involved with production. I always thought that production from scene to scene fell so perfectly into place, because that’s live theater. There’s no cuts, green screens, or editing.
From the minor details in film and theater, to the way a person acts: all the visuals of film [impact me]. So many films have changed society. It’s kinda cheesy, but it’s so true. I’ve learned a lot of life lessons through films themselves.”
