Watching the final relay at the state competition, freshman and Varsity swimmer Maddy Loniewski was terrified until she knew Mercy would once again bring home the state title for the 5th year in a row.
“If I could go back…I would,” said Loniewski. “It was the best day of my life.”
To say the least, for Loniewski swim has definitely remained a priority in her life and her success at states displays her dedication to the sport.
She has adjusted well to Mercy High School and is even doing better than she anticipated.
“I’m having an awesome time!” said Loniewski, “The link leaders really helped me learn about Mercy and find my way through the halls.”
She especially enjoys English class with Ms. Michalik and Biology with Mr. Eshleman. Balancing her schoolwork and swimming has been a bit tougher than she originally expected, but she is still nonetheless dedicated to her team.
“It was difficult to balance homework and swimming,” said Loniewski, “because we swam in the morning and after school. We are committed because in order to do great you have to do the work and you can’t really take a break or you get out of shape so you have to be willing to do it.”
In the free time that she has, Loniewski enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching Vampire Diaries.
She plans on swimming next year and has high hopes for the team.
“The swim season was awesome,” said Loniewski, “and we had some great swims by some great girls and we are very dedicated to the sport…and I’m confident we will pull another win the next couple of years!”
