The end of a long road for Mercy swimming seniors
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the term “family” as a group of people related to one another. Although true, the word can also be used to define the Mercy Swim and Dive team, which is known for its success and unity in and out of the water.
With the season lasting four long months, the swimmers spend countless hours with one another, eating, studying, laughing, and of course, swimming.
On Friday, Mercy Swim and Dive hosted its Senior Night at the The DeLoris Yager Natatorium, taking special time to honor its 11 seniors and reflect on their four years of success, friendship, and accomplishments.
At this year’s Senior Night, the entire team was split into four separate teams. Each team then competed in fun and unique relays, like a t-shirt wearing relay, a swim noodle relay, and an underwater relay.
Laughing and smiling with every stroke, the night was definitely one to remember.
Senior captain Ellyse Conn looked back on her four years with the Mercy swim team with a smile.
“The team has taught me discipline, hard work, and teamwork,” she said. “This program has introduced me to my best friends, ones that I know will last a lifetime.”
Senior Katy Kouvaris agreed.
“Being a part of this team has changed my life,” she said. “I’ve grown as a swimmer and a person. Although I’ll always treasure the medals and the trophies, I’m going to treasure the memories I’ve made and the people I’ve met most.”
Mercy Swim and Dive will compete in the CHSL Championship on Nov. 13 and 14. It will go from there to compete in the MHSAA Championships the following weekend.
