STARS ends the year with a craft
The Sisters That Are Reading Stories (STARS) book club held its final meeting of the year last Thursday. Members and newcomers alike were invited to stay after school for a short meeting full of discussion, crafts, and homemade cookies.
“I think the meeting went well,” said club leader junior Julia Kirby. “I think everyone had a lot of fun making bookmarks and talking together.”
Along with some delicious chocolate chip cookies, Kirby supplied the club with a variety of colored construction paper, crayons, markers, glue, and googly eyes. Attendees closely followed the instructions displayed on an iPad to create colorful bookmarks.
Though only about 10 members were in attendance– likely due to it being Senior Skip Day– the small group had a good time making their bookmarks and discussing literature.
“Today was especially fun because we bonded over arts and crafts,” said junior Emma Mason. “I love going to book club because I love talking to the girls about the books.”
There was not a lot of book-specific discussion at this meeting, however, as members are not required to read every book and many opted out of the final book, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.
“It didn’t surprise me that most people didn’t have time to read the book this time of year,” said Kirby. “We were expecting that, which is why we planned to make bookmarks.”
The bookmarks appeared to be a hit and many of the girls made more than one. Most members followed a common theme and left their last meeting of the year with bookmarks designed as frogs, cats, dogs, and even a purple monster.
“Our members are wonderful,” said Kirby. “I think the meeting was a great way to end the year.”
